About the event
What is Black Out Poetry?
Black out poetry is also known as retracted or erasure poetry. It involves taking a page of text and removing (blacking out) words until you're left with a poem.
What will I do in the workshop?
We will be taking pages from the famous novel Oliver Twist, written by the Portsmouth born author Charles Dickens. You will then remove sections of the text until you are left with a short poem. There will be pens and pencils on hand so that you can illustrate or doodle over the parts of the text you've removed.
What happens next?
With your agreement we'll keep hold of your poetry and art work for a few weeks so that it can be displayed at our exhibition day on 30th May in Victoria Park, where you'll be invited to join us and all the other participants to celebrate your work.…
